Dr. Mesfer Mohammad Al Shahrani ... From Excellence in Clinical Biochemistry to Advancing Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation
Dr. Mesfer Mohammed Al-Shahrani’s academic and professional journey exemplifies the integration of scientific excellence, clinical expertise, and institutional leadership in quality assurance and academic accreditation. He currently serves as the Vice Dean for Quality and Accreditation at the Deanship of Development and Quality, King Khalid University, alongside his academic position as Associate Professor of Clinical Biochemistry at the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Abha.
His distinguished academic journey includes earning a PhD from the UCL Institute of Child Health, University College London (UCL), United Kingdom. His doctoral research was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Pathology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the UCL Institute of Neurology. During his doctoral studies, he also held an honorary position as a Clinical Biochemist in the Neurometabolic Disorders Unit at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), enabling him to combine advanced scientific research with clinical diagnostic practice.
His professional achievements extend beyond scientific research and clinical practice to higher education development and teaching excellence. He earned a Fellowship in Higher Education Teaching and Learning and received the 2025 King Khalid University Excellence Award for Quality in Teaching – Faculty Category, recognizing his contributions to educational excellence.
In institutional leadership, Dr. Al-Shahrani draws on his academic and professional expertise to lead institutional and program-level quality assurance and academic accreditation initiatives, develop administrative quality management systems in accordance with ISO standards, and oversee continuous improvement in academic and administrative performance across the University. He has also contributed to the development and review of academic programs and the enhancement of quality assurance frameworks and systems in alignment with national and international accreditation standards.
